Many antiviruses provide the internet protection to protect your computer from cyber attacks,  fake email attachments that can steal your data, fake websites, spot scam emails such as phishing etc.

For internet security, you can use any good antivirus that will provide the internet security such as Avast Internet Security, Avira Internet Security, AVG Internet Security etc. You can also use antivirus extension in your Google Chrome browser. Antivirus Internet protection helps you to avoid fake websites as hackers can easily create an exact copy of your banking site to steal your logins and passwords. Internet security encrypts your data so your information stays safe.

Signature-based detection

This is the most commonly used method which involves searching for known patterns of the virus within a given file. Every antivirus software will have a dictionary of sample malware codes called signatures in its database which work is to target and detect the virus and deletes them.

Whenever a file scan, the antivirus refers to the dictionary of sample codes present within its database and compares the same with the current file. If the piece of code within the file matches with the one in its dictionary then it is flagged and proper action is taken immediately so as to stop the virus from further replicating.

Different antivirus has different functions and criteria to detect a virus and take actions such as to repair the file, quarantine or delete it permanently based on its potential risk.

Heuristic-based detection (Suspicious Activity)

Heuristic-based detection involves identifying suspicious kind of activities from any given program which might indicate a potential risk.

It is used to identify new malware and variants of known malware. Unlike the signature-based approach, here the antivirus doesn’t attempt to identify known viruses but instead monitors the behavior of all programs.

Software Updates

Since new viruses and threats are released every day, it is important to keep the antivirus up to date. Most software will have an auto-update feature so that, the antivirus get automatically updated whenever the computer is connected to the Internet. Antivirus Software update is necessary to protect the system against new viruses.
